St Werburgh's Roman Catholic Parish, Chester

200 Years of St Werburgh's Parish

The first baptismal registers from St Werburgh's Parish date from 1794, the year that Father James Lancaster came to Chester to take over the mission here. On Ascension Day 1994, a special Mass to mark the 200th anniversary of the founding of the parish was celebrated by Bishop Joseph Gray, the incumbent Parish Priest, Father Peter Sharrocks, and a large number of other concelebrants.
