St Werburgh's Mental Health Support Group

Two meetings so far, but unmistakeably we have tapped into something very real. Some clear areas have emerged: Living with Depression; The Challenges of Eating Disorders; Bi-Polar Conditions; Alcoholic Addictions; Life after Suicide; and Coping with Dementia. I'm sure others will emerge as we go on. Question: keep the Group general or "sub-groups" along the lines above? Question: keep it as essentially a Support Group, or invite specialist input from people working in these areas? Answers will emerge as we go on. But an extraordinary and powerful mixture of "carers" and "experiencers", and that's working well. Next meetings: Tuesday 19th September; Tuesday 17th October; Friday 24th November. All 7.00 pm in the Parish House. Everyone warmly welcome.

Photo of the Week: St Werburgh's Dublin!

A church of this name has been on the site close to Dublin Castle since 1178. The current church was built in 1719 at a cost of £8,000. It had a large spire. Following the uprising in 1798 concerns were raised over the spire as a security risk as it overlooked Dublin Castle. The spire was removed in 1810. Thanks, John, for sending it in!

Holiday Reading - Dickens

Some things are so predictable, aren't they? For the last twelve months, I have been stuck into the Letters, all 14,000 of them, magnificently edited over a period of 35 years by Professor Kathleen Tillotson and her team. In 12 volumes! I'm finishing Vol 6, and hoping to read Vols 7 and 8 in Rome. Should keep me out of mischief!

Minor Works Projects in September

We have some work to do on the Church Roof and Guttering/Drain Pipes, which the Diocese have surveyed and put out to tender. Hopefully done in September. About £30,000 - and most of that is the scaffolding! Also in September, we want to move forward on our "Minor Works" List.
