St Werburgh's Roman Catholic Parish, Chester

Refugee Assist – Can you help, please?

The Refugee Support charity, set-up before the Covid-19 pandemic to support asylum seekers in the Chester and Ellesmere Port area, has approached SVP District to ask if any of its Conference Members could possibly assist them with some voluntary activities, please.

The charity is involved with TWO foodbanks – in Chester and Ellesmere Port – and has a small storage unit where it stocks clothing, kitchen utensils and crockery, toys for children and toiletries for distribution to Families and people in need.

They urgently need help to:

  • Organise and sort-out items at the storage unit (based at St Saviours, Ellesmere Port), between 6-30pm and 8-30pm once every four weeks,
  • Welcome refugee families, between 10am and midday on Thursdays, every two weeks and,
  • Transport light goods from Ellesmere Port to Chester, as and when required.

Refugee Assist has a WhatsApp group, where the person in charge (Penny McCulloch) posts requests for support when required.

Our photo shows the storage unit and the kinds of items stocked for distribution.

If you are interested in helping (and every bit helps!) please contact Marco Abbiati at St Werburgh’s SVP and he will put you in touch with Penny and her team.

Thanks in anticipation.
