As outside temperatures plunged to well below average for mid-November it was left to the combined efforts of the Ellesmere Port & Chester District’s Conferences to (in every sense) lift the spirits at an amazing Afternoon Tea Party, held at St Columba’s Hall in Newton. Chester’s Widow and Widower Group were also warmly invited.
More than 90 people attended and together enjoyed a delightful repast of tea and fresh, hand-made cakes, together with some scintillating live entertainment from no less a celebrity than St Werburgh’s very own Mgr David Charters!
Fr David surprised everybody with a superlative rendition of ‘Sweet Caroline’ (better than Neil Diamond himself according to some) scoring top ‘Yes’ responses and a resounding chorus of, “More! More! More!” from everybody in attendance.
Our video (below) provides just a hint of this newly unearthed talent, gleefully appreciated by a grateful audience.
