St Werburgh's Roman Catholic Parish, Chester

Gardening Team

What We Do

Depending on experience, the weather and the time of year, we'll cover some large and small tasks that help maintain the beauty of the church gardens.

Broadly, our remit includes:

Upkeep and maintenance of the lateral and back gardens of the church

Cleaning and maintaining the concrete areas to the front and the back of the church

Cleaning and maintaining the outbuildings and storage areas in the gardens.

Our gardening group is made up of several regular and ad-hoc volunteers who come together to maintain and enhance the natural beauty.

We have different levels of expertise (or lack of!), and we enjoy contributing to the parish whilst having a good chat and putting the world to rights.

We usually meet on Saturdays, although the time varies depending on the time of the year, scheduled events, such as weddings and our respective availability.

We arrange our meet-ups though our Gardening WhatsApp Group.

How you can join us

You can join us by emailing houseandgarden@stwerburghchester.co.uk  or speaking to one of our volunteers in church or in the garden.

About the group

We all have different reasons for getting involved with the gardening group.

Some volunteers join from a sense of duty or gratitude towards the parish or as a way of giving back. Others do it because they enjoy social interaction, the occasional cake and biscuits, and as a way of bringing something different and fun into their week.

Finally, some do it because they have a love of gardening and are happy to share their skill with others and the community.

Regardless of their personal motivation, we are grateful to all of our regular and ad-hoc volunteers who contribute to maintaining the church's beautiful surroundings.
