Out Today: Parish Diaries 2023-24

Please take your copy of our new Parish Diary today, the first since 2019. It’s an amazing work, aiming to achieve three goals: to showcase many of our Parish activities for the benefit of parishioners new and old who might like to join one of these groups. Secondly, to give everyone as many dates for the year ahead as possible so that no-one can say they didn’t know when something was taking place! Thirdly, it plots all dates and activities on an enormous spreadsheet, to make sure that two activities are not taking place at the same time, which is so dispiriting for anyone organising anything in the Parish. Huge thanks to Denise Jones, who has worked so hard on this Diary all Summer. It’s a fitting tribute to all her work!

 

Parish Renewal Update

Excellent meeting on our Youth Initiative last Wednesday. Thanks to our Youth and volunteer helpers. Watch this space for updates as this initiative takes shape. We need our " Youth" to complete the survey , available at the back of church and we are collecting art entries in Church Sunday 1^st and 8^th of October.

 

Church Library Re-launch

Please come and join the Library Team on Monday 2^nd October for the Church Library re-launch and every first Monday of the month thereafter, from 9.30 am to 11.30 am. Browse, sit and read, borrow and return.  No need to sign books out or in. Many categories to choose from. Free access before and after each Mass too.

Each month will have its own theme, starting with Biographies in October, Saints in November and Advent/Christmas/Mark’s Gospel in December.

From works of fiction to theology books, inspirational stories to prayer books, there is something for everyone. Do come along and see.

 

Head of RE at St Paul’s Catholic High School

The Catholic High School Open Mornings

Monday 25^th and Tuesday 26^th September. A chance to see the school in action. There will be two tours per day one at 9.00 am and the other at 10.00 am. These need to be booked by emailing welcometo@christofidelis.org.uk or by phoning the office on 01244 952788.

 

First Holy Communion Class 2023-24:

Launch Date: Tuesday October 3^rd, 6.30 pm.

CathSoc Programme Starts This Sunday 24^th  Sept

Welcome to all our Students, new and old! CathSoc starts up again this Sunday with a Quiz Evening, so do come and join us, after Sunday Evening Mass, 7.00 pm onwards. And if you’re new to Chester, do make sure you leave us your contact details today.

 

Upcoming Concerts in St Werburgh’s and Around

 

• Chester Male Voice Choir Autumn Concert: 30^th September 2023; 7.30 pm. Chester Town Hall
• Concert by the Advent Singers at St Werburgh’s with Organ and Vocal Solos – “A Musical Journey Round  the World” – Conductor Stewart Smith, Organist Henry Smith – Friday 13^th October 7.30 pm.
• Friday 10^th November 7.45 pm at St Werburgh’s  'Music for a Remembrance and Reflection'
• Chester Cathedral Nave Choir will be singing a concert of Remembrance-themed and reflective music. Featuring music by Thomas Weelkes and William Byrd (in the 400^th anniversary year of their deaths), and others.

 

St Werburgh’s Parish History Group

Meeting for anyone interested in joining/helping the group will be held on Monday 25^th September at 6.00 pm at St. Werburgh’s. This includes those who have already stated that they would like to join and those who have not yet done so. If you would like to join/help us, but cannot make this meeting, please contact cheshire.historian@outlook.com

 

SVP Sponsored Walk: Sunday 8^th October

To raise funds for our Holiday Home. We start from the Catholic High School at 1.00 pm (parking available) and have a choice of a short 2.3 miles or a longer 3.7 miles. For more information, contact Marco on bububaba05@icloud.com  

 

Christleton Summer Teas

Churches Together in Christleton organise Summer Teas in the Methodist Chapel from June to September. The last one this year is Sunday 24^th September  and is being hosted by St Werburgh’s. If anyone is able to help on the day or make a cake beforehand, please give Anne a ring on 313409.

 

Day Chapel Refurbishment:

Wednesday 11^th October, 7.00 pm

A meeting for Day Chapel refurbishment for everyone interested. In the meantime we would like to do a mini makeover and make it into a welcoming space. Volunteers to help with a one-off clean please sign up at the back of Church – Friday 6^th Oct 9.30 am.

Catholic Enquiry Course 2023-24

Ten sessions, one a fortnight, from October round to Lent, with Easter the moment that those who would like to become full Catholics can do so. Launch Meeting is Monday 9^th October at 7.00 pm. Do please get in touch if you’d like a chat about the course.
