“I was deeply saddened to hear of the sad passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. His departure marks a profound loss not only to the Catholic Church and its community but to all who were touched by his messages and dedication. Pope Francis dedicated his life to serving others and promoting peace, justice and those living in vulnerable situations. Therefore, during this period of mourning and on behalf of the City of Chester, I would like to extend my deep respect and condolences to you all and to those who cherished him. May you find comfort in the memories of his work and the knowledge that Pope Francis provided inspiration to many across the globe. With deepest sympathy, Razia Daniels.”

Saturday 28th June, then on Sunday 29th on to Holywell. John writes: “We are doing really well with numbers signed up to walk – only 5-6 places left each day. But we’ve only one offer of non-walking support so far. It would be great to have one or more volunteers either or both days who could support by car in case anyone struggles to complete the walk.” Help out? Please contact: john.egan1935@gmail.com

In 1887 a painting of the crucifixion was discovered by a fisherman in a small island cave off the Mull of Kintyre. It was made by local art teacher Archibald MacKinnon who said the image had come to him in a dream. He returned to the area a number of times to retouch the painting, and restoration has continued to this day. Stephen Barnes 2024 – thanks, Steve!
